Grandparent's Day Origins

i post this topic for as far as i (and some of the people that i know) know, this holiday is new.

i looked at wikipedia and apparently it originated in 1978 but i could not find any information regarding whether or not this holiday had any pagan origins.. we all know the jehovah's witnesses do not celebrate any holidays and naturally when i asked my wife about this 'new' holiday she was a bit provoked.

she went on with the usual spiel of "why do we need a special day to celebrate our grandparents?

They were the ones who were unsatisified with what they were being taught yet if someone does that today let them be marked as apostate, worldy, siding with Satan, opposing jerkovah and any other "taking the ball and going home" kinda thing. Doctor Emmett Brown REALLY needs to get on the ball making that time machine, and I need a phase plasma rifle with 40 watt range..... Ok that's a little dark but yeah, I just have to wonder where dubs/idea of jerkovah/earthly channel/WTS would be without these two dumb asses.

Have any of you asked your JW family why they started the kool-aid edition?

i mean really asked why after all these years they don't want the public to see the study articles?.

has anyone ever challenged a jw to give the private wt to "worldly" people?.

i've asked my mom why they have the private edition and she gave me some crap about not having to explain terms or teachings to worldly people, then she kind of blew me off like it wasn't an important issue.

I asked my aunt and she gave me the same BS reason: Not having to explain terminology, and jerkovah focusing on his people. I mean are they using some kinda of alien language? If it's about the terminology, since they like to release books why don't they release one called "JW Terminology" Put in there the definitions of 144,000, great crowd, Har-dee-har-harmegeddon and other shit they regurgitate over and over again. Really, I could pick up a magazine right now and read something along the lines of "What sort of person ought you to be?" "Keep walking upright in the eyes of jerkovah" (I refuse to call him by his supposed real name) "Let jesus sayings safeguard your heart" "Teach your children the importance of studying" or some other do-as-we-say kinda deal. What's to be explained again? Oh yeah, simple english? Bullshit! Just put the disclaimer up and be done with it:

of course, i feel like the reason is that before there was two versions the articles that were heavy on the dictation (keep on the watch, don't be misled, exert yourselves vigorously etc...) were mixed in with worldy people to witness bait.

and, while before this worked, it's a different ballgame now.

maybe because i was in so long, and "studied" so much it just got tiresome.

maybe because i no longer believe in god i can't be bothered with any of the things i was forced to "learn.

" having read comments of bona fide atheists, they sometimes seem to know more about the bible than christians.. does anyone else just have a lack of desire to try to understand those more complicated parts of the bible?.

Hells yeah it's boring. High 5 and 1000 cool points to you SerenityNow! The thing about the bible is nobody really knows what was going on in those times. All the little visions they had? For all I know these guys were hopped up on weed. If someone makes the arguement that it's fact "because all these different writers over years and years have collaborated their stories and they're in sync", I purpose this to said person: True or False...the Sun rises in the east and sets in the west.

The Earth turns and it's only through peoples perception of the sun that they make the claim that it itself "rises" and "sets". We have some lovely parting gifts for you though.

Yet even through all the sciences and telescopes and elementary school curriculum people still say that the sun "revolves around us" in a sense. No, repeating something over time does not make it true, any more than it does an urban legend. In the kingdumb hall you'll hear a lot of "We KNOW that jehovah is....." or "WE CAN be happy that (jesus, any of the disciples, jehovah)....." The strawman tactics are strong with these ones. Boring? Abel was a shepard of sheep and Cain was a farmer. god looked in favor at Abel but not Cain. Why? What did Abel really do besides let the animals do what they would've done (or reproduce) and then gather them together in a particular place? What is so god non-damned amazing about that? Cain actually had to put more work into producing fine fruit out of the cursed ground that god himself cursed. And at that point the vegetation served as food so why is it that if a person were to take an even more living thing like an animal and kill it, then it was acceptible to god? Did anyone ask the animal if they wanted to cease to exsist? PETA would've had a field day back then. He then asks Cain what he has done regarding murdering his brother, as if he didn't know that praising one over the other would result in this very thing. Hell he experienced it before with Satan. This seems sdrawkcab to me.

All this talk of unity within the cong seems futile when weighed against the tower of Babel story. What really could man have done at that tower? Even if they managed to get around the thinner air the higher they went issue, there's still the issue of regardless of how high they went they would never reach their goal of building it "to the heavens" or at least not to where god supposedly resides. Why then take issue enough to scramble the speech of people thus making it harder to communicate and spread the good news of the kingdom? This too is sdrawkcab.

Bible Satan actually told the truth about the tree of knowledge of good and bad. Untested we would not have known what bad was and therefore couldn't know what good was. It comes back to the not knowing what something is until you know what it's not saying. Also, why would you name a tree "The Tree of Life" if it bought about death to those who ate from it? Even if I were to say that the fruit itself wasn't harmful and that it was the principle of the thing, still "tree of life" is misleading. It's like that scene in Saw II where the word "EXIT" is painted on a door and when the guy tests the vaildity of the statement, they don't get through the door.

I mean, who is commanding worship? Who flips the script at the last second and says do as I say not as I do? Who has allowed people to get so convaluted in their thinking that multiple religions have stemmed from it (although this is something he wantsto/is gonna fix)? Who offs a few teenagers because they were stating the obvious about the prophet? He was bald and he was going up on a mountain. Who likewise for the same reason whacks a whole colliseum full of perpatrators and innocent bystanders alike because Samson asked for it to be so? From these I can only contend that god is the lie and Satan is the truth. Who wants to let us do what we want uninhibited? Who doesn't demand worship? If religion is the way out and many believe it is so then this would negate the whole "coming as a thief in the night" thing. Just my take.

There was an article in a recent one who talked about a dub girl who wanted to go to a party that was not hosted by other dubs. She received the warnings about why she shouldn't go but went anyway. There, at the party she met a nice man who was supposedly christian. Well he wound up spiking her drink with a date rape drug and raped the girl. The moral we are supposed to take from this is if she had listened to the counsel she would not have been raped. Which to a degree is true. But this puts the blame solely on the girls decision and dims the light on the REAL problem here, the "nice man". While she would not have been raped if she hadn't gone the fact is she was there. Now what? Enter "nice man". Here's a scumbag who couldn't control or had no control over his desire. HE put the pill in the drink. HE led her away. HE forced his way onto her. And this can happen ANYWHERE. Should we not go to a mall because we have to cross rows of unfamiliar cars in the parking lot? Should we not answer the door for someone appearing to have our mail? Should we not answer the door for someone claiming to be bringing the good news of the kingdom? (well that last one is okay, I wouldn't blame you) But yeah, let's just close ourselves up in our houses. And if you find yourself babysitting late one night and the phone rings, DO NOT ANSWER THE PHONE! TAKE THE KID AND RUN!Because the killer is already inside your house!!!

there are a lot of thread s and arguments around the 587/607 issue, it can be a bit confusing, and for those of us still in, like me, to help others, it would not be a topic i would choose first.

it was something i found out, after i awakened, before i simply brushed it aside, as something like worldly chronology against biblical chronology.

imho to be ready for this issue, you have to be awake first, unless you are a real history buff... anyway, there may be another take on this matter:.

Interesting.....but the first two has nothing to do with man being on jerkovahs side or Satans. And war? Doesn't always mean grand scale lost of life. You and I can be at war over something as simple as what video game system to play or who will get the last piece of cake. All war is, in it's base form, is a clash of ideas. Think about it, action movie for example: Guy goes in a robs a bank, tells everyone to hit the floor and they do so. It isn't until the hero of the story (or to a lesser extent the local police department) comes when the robbers starts whacking people. If the police and Ah-nald didn't get in their way the hostages would likely have gone unharmed. Disease outbreaks? I gotta lay that box on gods doorstep as he was the one who removed perfection from us. And even if you say it was Adams fault, jesus supposedly died FOR OUR SINS past, present and future. Sin came instantly after the fruit was ate therefore the moment JCs heart stopped beating it should've removed sin from this world. Starvation is a "people in power vs. those without power" issue, one that could be eliminated seeing how god has this ultimate plan, but still refuses to put into action. He's like Cohaagen in Total Recall or something. "Give dah people air..." "Noooooooooo!!" *runs and hides under a table*
